well, its been quite a while since ive updated anything on here. Alot of things have been going on the last few weeks and really havent had anything of importance to write. I am currently working on a new website, and im not too sure if im going to have a blog on it. It will have a news section, but the site is more geared towards clients and getting my images out to the media.

King of the Cage: Encore

Once again, Team Xxtreme made a trip to fight in a King of the Cage event. The venue for this event was The Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort in Mount Pleasant Michigan, and i think was one of the nicer places we have been to. There is plenty of seating, the cage was lit up nicer than most other venues, and the crowd turnout was pretty decent. There were 11 fights on the card, with only 2 or 3 making it past the first round. There was alot of quick action, but the fights that made it past the first round, were great.

Over the next few months there are going to be aot of fights going on. The UFL (Urban Fighting League) in the Detroit area will be having an event on July 11th, and our XKL (Xtreme Kombat League) will be making its debut on Aug 15th… so stay tuned for more!!

Toronto MMA Expo Pics

The Toronto MMA Expo was a big success for Team Xxtreme and Phlattline Apparel and Gear. Attending the show was Ty Holmes, Chris Highton, Lance Snow, myself, and 2 of the models, Kira and Sarah. The attendance to the show was great, with some big names signing autographs, taking pictures, and teaching seminars.

Team Xxtreme/Phlattline @ Toronto MMA Expo

The expo includes live fights, celebrity fighters, demonstrations, gear and apparel sales, magazines and media, nutrition specialists, and personal trainers.

Team Xxtreme trains for June 19th

Its been about 6 weeks since Team Xxtreme’s last fight at King Of The Cage. This past week, the team started their hard training once again. Ty Holmes will be fighting against Myles Jury at 170lbs in King Of the Cage: Encore on June 19th at the Soaring Eagle Casino in Mt Pleasant Michigan.

Ty Holmes, and Mike Holmes have been doing an intense workout led by James Rock. Weights, Plyometrics, Stair running, Sparring, Bag Work, Ground Work, Cardio.. you name it and they’ve been doing it.

King of the Cage: Battle On The Bay

Team Xxtreme had 3 fighters (Mike Holmes, Lance Snow, Ty Holmes) at the King of the Cage event “Battle On The Bay” this past Saturday April 18th. With the official weigh-ins on the friday night before the event, 8 of us made the 5 hour trip together in the afternoon. It was a long drive, but the company of Mike, Lance, Ty, Nick, Chris, James, and Troy made it enjoyable. On Saturday, pictures and promo stuff didnt start till 4pm, so we had all morning and afternoon to relax, and it allowed the fighters to nap a little.

About 1 hour before the doors opened to the spectators, the fighters, crew, and media were let in. I walked around and checked out the venue. The cageside seats were about 10 feet away from the cage itself. I was given the option to shoot through the cage, or find an alternative. With the way the seating was, shooting through the cage would most likely have me blocking spectator view, so i opted to find an alternative. After talking to the lighting crew, i was able to get access to the lighting cat-walk above the cage. Perfect angle with the way it was setup. i could shoot on a 45 degree angle into the cage, and i could also walk almost directly above it.

The only thing i didnt like about shooting from this angle, was the bright yellow floor mat of the cage they used for this event. The lighting wasnt even, and the bright yellow really tricks the metering of the camera, and forces it to read under-exposed. After a few test shots, i was good to go with my MarkIII and 70-200F2.8L, and i got some great shots, even in the fights that didnt last very long. Next time i encounter one of these bright cage mats, i think ill opt to shoot cageside at ground level.

Overall, it was a good weekend with a great team of guys, even though Mike was the only one to bring back a victory. I went through and picked out about 35 pics from the event, and i also added in some pre fight portaits at the beginning of the album. Pics can be seen here : CLICK HERE

Worth the Wait: Big Sean, Affected Campaign, Richy Nix

Over the last few weeks my site/blog as really been focused on MMA action, but i cant go without posting about a good cause.

Brady Thrasher’s Affected Campaign hosted a release party at Boom Boom Room for his new Affected Sunglasses. Affected is a cause marketing consumer product that allows the purchaser to designate proceeds from each individual purchase to the registered charitable organization of their choice (what you are Affected by).

Special guest performances were made by G.O.O.D. Music’s ”Big Sean” and his Finally Famous Entertainment crew. Opening up the night for Big Sean, was local artist Richy Nix who has been on the top request list for Windsor/Detroit’s 89x radio station. Both Richy and Big Sean put on an excellent performance, and the club was packed. A great turn-out, for a great cause!

Xtreme Cagefighting Championship: Night of Champions

Sunday April 5th was a big night for Xtreme Cagefighting Championship in Detroit Michigan with the “Night of Champions”. The fight card was stacked with 8 championship title belts on the line at the Motor City Casino.

A big thank goes out to Phlattline MMA, Team Xxtreme, and Matt Flynn from XCC for getting me in to shoot the event.

The Sound Board hall that the event was in was pretty nice, but not too spectator friendly for a cage fight. Its 2 level hall, with the cage setup on the stage and the lighting was pretty even, but not as bright as i would have liked. I ended up shooting the entire night with a MarkIII and 70-200F2.8L @ 1/500-650, F2.8, iso6400 (keep reading for shooting location).

After checking out the setup and chatting with Matt, he couldnt get me a platform to shoot from on the cage. Obviously the video camera crew gets priority on the 2 that were up. I had 2 other options. The first was to shoot through the cage, which i didnt want to do, since i shot this way on friday night. I took option 2, which was to shoot from the 2nd floor balcony overlooking the cage. I made my way up to the 2nd floor reserved seating and found a small space next to the last seat on the front row, where i wasnt in the way of any spectators, and it was the best view in the house in my opinion. Great view to catch some great action.
